searching for my endgame keyboard: a series

Drop + OLKB Planck Keyboard

The crazy beautiful, addicting, and magnificent world of mechanical keyboards became one of my main hobbies when quarantine started about a year ago. I began watching (hundreds) of YouTube videos on how to improve my workspace since I was starting to work from more permanently. In almost every single video, a mechanical keyboard was mentioned. I then began my research on all things keyboards and decided that purchasing one was a great decision. …

“Scenius doesn’t take away from the achievements of those great individuals; it just acknowledges that good work isn’t created in a vacuum, and that creativity is always, in some sense, a collaboration, the result of a mind connected to other minds”

A quote from one of my all time favorite books, Show Your Work! by Austin Kleon. I was introduced to this book via one of my favorite YouTubers, Ali Abdaal, and I am so happy it’s in my life now. I’ll go deeper into why I love this book so much by covering what it’s about, some of the…

I recently built my first web scraper and it worked! It was so fun to learn how to do, and even more to fun to build. In this post I wanted to go step by step in how I built mine in hopes of teaching you to build your own.

Let’s start off by making sure you have Python installed on your machine. If you do not, please see here.

Quick note: I’m running everything in macOS and will try to post relevant Windows commands throughout this post!

We will be building…

New year. New goals. That’s everyone’s motto, right? It’s definitely something that has become my motto and something I think is so important — especially now more than ever. Not only is it important to set goals, but it’s also important to create a game plan for achieving those goals.

In this post we’ll discuss goal setting, game planning, and the one…

Life is strange and we all know it. It’s unpredictable, unsettling, beautiful, hopeful, and so many other things — sometimes at the same time.

For me, life over the last 4 years has been a train. That may sound a little weird, but let me explain.

After graduating from college in 2016 I applied to what feels like millions of jobs all leading to dead ends. I had a degree in psychology with hopes of getting into neurology and studying sleep, but that hope was slowly diminishing.

Mentally I became defeated, discouraged, and ready to give up. Things began to…

If you haven’t listened to my podcast, The Press Pod, I love to discuss all things everyday carry gear and backpacks. If you have listened to the podcast, then you know how obsessed I am with backpacks and gear. To me it’s not just a backpack or another thing to carry around with you. It’s a gateway to being more motivated, excited, and productive. Purchasing a product that enables you to go out and be more adventurous just so you can interact with that product is exactly why I love discussing backpacks.

Finding the right backpack to tag along with…

One of the most important parts of my productivity machine is my bullet journal. I never in a million years thought that I would rely so heavily on a tool, alas, here we are.

If you’re unfamiliar with my productivity machine, check out my podcast, The Press Pod, found here, where I discuss all things productivity tools + other topics in the technology and everyday carry realm. Shameless plug complete.

I’ve been “leveling up” or “upgrading” my productivity machine with a variety of different tools over the last year, but my bullet journal has been the most important upgrade.

Productivity. It’s a topic that has taken on new meaning in my life, and one that I never thought I would have this much passion for. Over the last year or so, I’ve explored this topic and all of the tools, apps, and services in the space. I’ve learned quite a bit, and now, I’m obsessed.

Productivity to me is a machine. It’s got its own parts with each part being used for a specific purpose. Each of those parts can be changed out when something stops working or the machine can last you several years before “upgrading.” …

I’ve wanted to start a podcast for as long as I can remember. Well, if this year has taught me anything it’s, don’t wait to pursue your passions.

Welcome to the press pod! I am so excited to start this new journey and can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on with you!

The press pod is a podcast about web development, data analytics, productivity tools, and everyday carry (EDC). …

Creating a “Hello World” application

Hello again. Hope you’ve been well! Today I’d like to start this series with the basics and foundations of one of my favorite languages, JavaScript, or JS for short.

What is JS? It is an extremely popular programming language for the web. It gives functionality to a site, and allows users to interact with it. Let’s dive right in, and create your first application!

Here are the tools you’ll need for this practice application:

  • Internet connection
  • Google Chrome (great browser for development purposes, in my opinion)
  • A willingness to learn something new today :)
